Guerilla Girls

"In 1985, a bunch of female artists, incensed by an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art that included 165 artists but only 17 women, founded the Guerilla Girls. Dubbing ourselves «The Conscience of the Artworld», we started making posters that bluntly stated the facts of discrimination and used humor to convey information, provoke discussion and to show that feminists can be funny. We assumed the names of dead artists, and began wearing gorilla masks when we appeared in public, concealing our true identities and focusing on the issues rather than on our personalities."

Couldn´t think of a better introduction, my apologies, but I hope you enjoy their work.

Colectivo Artistico Fondiu - C.A.F. (Fondiu Artistic Collective)

Fondiu is an artistic collective that I found during researches on the internet.
Fondiu is a collective with 5 active members. They believe it's necessary to participate, colaborate and create discussions to encourage the members in the development of their artistic projects. One of Fondiu's objective is that different people, with different ages, should meet to create opinions and to give different points of view. C.A.F. has also the objective to create intelligent art and culture dialogues, to spread art through exhibitions, concerts, perfomances, etc. They want to develop an healthy relation between people with interests in art and culture.

"Revolution! (...) use your brain to mobilize change, a change that is more necessary today, you have the right and obligation (as an artist, intellectual, thinker and human being in general), to leave behind all the obstacles between you and your fullness." (C.A.F. - Fondiu Artistic Collective)

For us from Arte às Tantas Collective (a Portuguese Art Collective) is spectacular to notice that, in Mexico, the Fondiu Collective is fighting for similar objectives that we still perserve.

Civilization by Marco Brambilla from CRUSH on Vimeo.

"Civilization depicts a journey from hell to heaven interpreted through modern film language using computer-enhanced found footage. This epic video mural contains over 300 individual channels of looped video blended into a multi-layered seamless tableau of interconnecting images that illustrate a contemporary, satirical take on the concepts of Heaven and Hell."

The Fallen Princesses

Rapunzel II by Dina Goldstein

"These works place Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios. In all of the images the Princess is placed in an environment that articulates her conflict. The '...happily ever after' is replaced with a realistic outcome and addresses current issues."

"Chicken Ala Carte" from Ferdinand Dimadura

"In February 2006, at the 56th Berlin Internacional Film Festival, Filmmakers were invited to join a short competition on the theme: food, taste and hunger."
Chicken Ala Carte from Ferdinand Dimadura (...) "topped the Competition by being adjudged the Most Popular Short Film."

The art of making videos have an incredible power to show what's happening, to alert people. Everyday, more film documentaries seem to show the social-cultural conditions of a world's economy declivity. Some believe that a documentary must fulfill social-cultural prerequisites, almost as an obligation of this video format.

Colette Calascione

Two Birds Sold for a Kiss, Colette Calascione, Oil on Wood, 1995 , 8" x 10"

"The women of NY-based painter Colette Calascione's world are the most luscious and enigmatic lot you’re likely to encounter in modern classical painting. Inspired by Victorian portraiture and Surrealism, Calascione is gifted with an Old Master’s hand for technique, a fevered imagination, a wicked sense of humor and a reverence for the feminine form rivaling that of Vargas himself. The resulting work is whimsical, provocative and elegant in turns. Demure masked nudes entice viewers with smoldering eye contact and slight, come-hither smiles. Grand dames of the parlour consort with beastly Ernstian suitors. The rosy aura of myth and allegory that surrounds these ladies is a fetching as their silken lingerie… maybe more so.

Scrupulous attention is paid to everything, and the color and contrast she imbues in each form — powdery decolletage, folds of drapery, the riotously rococo backgrounds — is exceptional.

Truly, Calascione knows that Goddess is in the details."

Tilt-Shift
